yep, couldn't even go to a proper funeral. Even at the tail end of it when my buddy died, hundreds of people sent their wishes but did not attend. I worked throughout that whole thing and helped to set up three temporary hospitals along with the Army Corps. It was a seriously spooky time.
In those days we needed a leader who would have been straightforward with us but he didn't give a shit. He told us to to stick UV lights up our ass, inject disinfectants, take malaria drugs and a livestock dewormer while telling all of us it would just disappear and belittling his own scientific experts.
good times. I was not doing way better back then, I was scared but I didn't give a fuck because if I sacrificed my own life to help out a bunch of others then it was worth it.
