It's ignorance/indifference and the fact that most people dont take an interest in the world, the country and issues beyond the zits on their nose. Look at the low turnout at most elections given how many are eligible to vote.
Oh and of course the media which only shows what they want to show so those who might want to be educated and only listen to main stream media, aren't even informed about things like the border, the border, the border which creates so many horrible ripple effects!
So when you combine all of the above, you arrive at this infuriating country where the most important things in life dont matter, just side shows like abortion rights.
