I make this point a lot. Not to take anything away from Geno, who was something of a pioneer, but there weren't a lot of great women's coaches or programs when he came on the scene. Our arch rival, Pat Summit in Tennessee comes to mind... Stamford, UNLV, Lousianna (I forget which team), maybe... a few others. Once Geno enjoyed some success he was able to have his pick of All-Americans... He'd have five on the floor and maybe one or two on the bench. There just weren't as many choices for the girls.

If you compare that to Calhoun who also built a program from scratch, Calhoun had to go recruiting against all kind of powerhouse men's programs. At one point he was known as the best coach in America who had never been to the final four. He put a ton of players into the NBA with his style of coaching. They're a pretty well established program now. I'd love to see them go back to back this year.

That said, I've never really been a basketball fan. I like to catch the UConn games if they're in the tournaments. This is where you get to see the high levels of play.

I'm like that with baseball too. I like to watch the Yankees sometimes, but we're in a bit of a drought on that one... Yes, Yankees, not Red Sox, despite my location.
