It's hard for me to say. First of all, he's/she's old. And as you say, golf isn't his sport. I think my point is, that no women was going to compete with him in track events in his prime, although many could now. It's similar to the Bobby Riggs vs Billie Jean King match, she was in her prime. He was way past it.

It may be an extreme, but the case of Lia Thomas is instructive. It's not a hypothetical. It's real and in our faces, and it isn't fair.. not even close. I'm not sure where you should draw the line. I don't have the expertise, which is why I say it's above my pay grade... but as much as I don't want to come down on the side of Conix or the Hillbilly, it's a glaring example of how unfair it gets.

Beyond that you can't disregard the ick factor either. I'm not sure how you'd feel about a grown man walking around in the locker room with you, but I'm guessing it's not for everyone. And people have a right to expect certain norms.
