Sounds you guys have something like the Vancouver climate change experience. We used to have catch-up hockey games on Burnaby Lake .. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=burnAby+lake+ . Jumping into snow-filled ditches, not being sure how deep they were, in the late 40s-early '50s was a blast. Kids these days don't have nearly the chances we had for outdoor fun.
