Another weight-loss treatment option at the end of a losing a significant amount of weight (presumably with an injectable) might be to switch to a less efficacious oral drug that would presumably:

  • Cost less
  • be more tolerable with regard to common side effects (nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach pain)
  • fewer or lessened long term side effects (e.g. stomach paralysis, pancreatitis, kidney problems)

There should be a number of ORAL candidates that make it to market. Kallyope's hormone approach with K757&K833 is particularly interesting for this reason.

Additionally- I expect that some percentage of people with weight loss will do it the old fashioned way and exercise more and change their diet habits. This would be especially true for the morbidly obese for example have problems partially caused by the excess weight. Granted, they may not keep all of the weight loss of but it may be good enough to just be overweight and as obese.

In meta-analysis* of weight regained following GLP-1 cessation, 60% of weight lost was regained at one year, and the estimated plateau (after more than one year post-treatment) was 75% of weight regained.

These results are consistent with the info in #msg-173233632.

*From 48 studies that reported regained weight at one year.
