I never use stops. The algos just sniff them out eventually.
The only place for stops IMHO is to secure a profit.

Ex;

You own HOOD @ $7.50,
Your thesis says it's going to $37.50,
IF it crosses $37.50, you then place a stop @ $34.49 not caring if it gets hit, meanwhile participating in the run if it goes to $47.50 ;-)
