Here's a perfect illustration of what Dave meant by being hampered by legacy. There was some discussion early on about whether or not we should maintain the rule about no one being able to post any information from PMs. It was a short lived conversation when Dave explained that precedent was already set and that bus had left the station. Someone who had the expectation 20 years ago that the information they shared in a PM was not for public display on this site can't be blindside that it becomes perfectly reasonable to now share publicly. I mean, there could likely be work-arounds if that was for some reason vital to iHub's business these days. But, since this was a brainstorming session, we were just throwing things out there and there was no real reason to make the change other than to have one less rule, we moved on.
Another example is that our code was written so long ago that, from what I understand, it was difficult to find programmers who could code in that language. And, what code there was was sort of cobbled together over years and years. So, in order to add new features or whatnot, it ended up eventually being that the entire site needed to be re-written in a new code. Same with the app - I believe there are folks currently working on re-writing everything.
So, from that standpoint, if you're a start up - you've got a fresh clean slate. It doesn't take you months of re-creating just to be able to make adjustments or improvements.
