#446465 RE: newmedman #446454

Been there done that back in the day.

The sheik just handed Monahan a ceo job of a for profit company owned by saudi and probably 10's of millions sign in bonus.
Money absolutely buys power and people. I bet Monahan had information about the league structure even while he was bad mouthing. I'm still going to play golf, but pro golf is nothing to me now. It's always been a rich mans sport, actually a rich white mans sport and has been owned by tv and advertising money for decades. There is no rich legacy. All modern pro sports supported by advertising has been disconnected like three ways. The owners living in another world sucking up advertising money and using fan money for tax write offs while getting most arenas built by the taxpayers in their cities, The pro level players now living in high priced world and overpaid, and the fan, who scrapes up money to go to the games and pay 20 bucks for a 10 once beer and what, 20+ for bleachers now? And yet, fan money is allegedly the smallest percentage of profit for owners?

The Telegraph's golf correspondent Jamie Corrigan added that the deal "has been conducted in incredible secrecy".

"It's been a total mess and they will present it as they've made the warring fairways peaceful again, but they've still got a long way to run," he said.

"Forget about growing the game and sportswashing, all this comes down to money and power."

9/11 group 'offended' by PGA Tour's 'hypocrisy'

'Just more evidence of the onward march of Saudi sportswashing'

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has angered many players with surprise merger

The PGA Tour has been defending its position since talk of a rival circuit began, and there was litigation pending with breakaway tour LIV.

But they have agreed to combine their commercial operations and rights into a new yet to be named for-profit company, of which PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan will be chief executive.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) which backs LIV, will be chairman of the new entity and was interviewed with Monahan on Tuesday.

BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter said: "For the last year, Jay Monahan has not been prepared to say the words 'LIV' or 'Saudi Arabia', he's been as disparaging as he possibly could be.

"Now they're sitting together on a couch having thrashed out this deal. Have LIV bought world golf today?"

And this is all bullshit under the bilge tank. Check the date and how 'angered' monohan is. And hypocrite DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley is now saying it's never been about sportswashing... riiight.

And the saddest thing I keep hearing is pro athletes are heros. Where. Did a pro athlete swim out 100 yards to save a kids life? Hero's save lives, human or animals in danger. Fireman, Police, EMs, nurses and doctors are heros, not some fullback on a football team. Regular people who work missions for free and help out at veteran centers and homeless centers are heros, heros to who they help and give their time for. Some pro athletes have done great things like forming charities and helping people and there's not a great many of those. Those athletes could be called something like a hero. But getting paid a shitton of money to beat yourself up in a season doesn't make one a hero.

Continuing... Normans been trying to break the PGA for over 20 years. PGA did have a monopoly and was anti-competitive all along. He finally succeeded with the Saudis. I never really cared about the pga world and don't care what happens now. But I believe the saudi sheik is corrupt to the core and won't have anything to do with it.
Don't believe I've ever directly bought anything with a golf pro name on it anyways. Not much choice when to buy clubs however.

And the saudi has been quietly in the background funding and investing in leagues and players well before 2020. The saudi had pro quality courses back in 2005 designed in the their new city plans and finally had Jack Nicklaus design and built the first course in 2021. Well first signature quality pro course that is.
