Please give me an example of what the agreement could be ( in your opinion)…..what law firm ( working on a contingency) wins at every level in a patent suit, gets a Trial set in a Plaintiff Friendly Court, has a chance for triple damages if victorious at trial and settles for NOT ONE PENNY??????? If true, they better have a huge E&O Policy.

Why WOULDN'T Amazon have to "pay up"?
That seems like an odd thing to say.

When do companies settle a patent infringement lawsuit against them?
I can think of a lot of reasons.
Regardless of their reasons, they will pay SOMETHING to compensate for an end to the lawsuit. Might not be money. Might be something else of value to VP.

If VP weren't going to get something for settling, wouldn't the case just be dismissed?
Doesn't seem like something I have to "convince myself of" to think Amazon would have to pay SOMETHING in an "agreement in principle to resolve all issues in the case".
Guess we'll find out soon enough.
