#439023 RE: DesertDrifter #439018

You have mentioned before the melt of heaps of snow this year is going to cause more real flood problems in
future. When skiing in BC 70-60 years ago we often thought of getting to Lake Tahoe, just but never managed it.

Will Sierra snowfall break the all-time record as another storm descends?

The Sierra Nevada is already buried in snow .. https://www.sfchronicle.com/weather/article/california-storm-snow-hail-17802445.php — and the mountain range is about to get a lot more powder, as forecasters predict potentially record-breaking snowfall in the coming days.

Researchers at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab have recorded 603 inches of snow since the 2022-2023 winter season began on Oct. 1, making it the fifth-snowiest since the mountain facility was built in 1946.

But the season has a long way to go toward surpassing 1952, when researchers tallied a whopping 812 inches of snow.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mark Deutschendorf wavered when asked whether this winter could best the all-time snow record.

“I’m not going to say no,” Deutschendorf, based in Reno, said Wednesday morning. “There is still plenty of season left.”

Forecasters are predicting an additional 6 to 12 inches .. https://www.sfchronicle.com/weather-forecast/article/atmospheric-river-california-rain-17824409.php .. of snow for the Tahoe area and the foothills surrounding the Yosemite Valley in the coming days. Rangers closed Yosemite National Park indefinitely after the valley received record-setting snowfall .. https://www.sfchronicle.com/climate/article/yosemite-breaks-snow-record-park-closed-17811592.php .. there late last month.

Do you think this surfeit of moisture will make up for years of drought and water shortage, result in fewer fires, less water rationing? Too soon to know one way or another?
