Sensationalism now too, ie Maddow, Hannity, Cuomo, are all sensationalist... News is sensationalized and sensationalist report it....Not only do they pick and choose what's reported, they sensationalize it, then,,,,,then they tell you how you should feel about it and how outraged you should be (wonder if that creates division?)...Targeting specific audiences/consumers.......Great deal for the corps that own them, make tons of money and keep themselves under the radar and the masses busy....

Noam was in fine form there, many good points made.....25+ years later sensational news took it all to a whole new level....

Credit Murdoch for making news for big profit,,,,,, But all media followed suit,,,,,

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensationalism

In journalism and mass media, sensationalism is a type of editorial tactic. Events and topics in news stories are selected and worded to excite the greatest number of readers and viewers. This style of news reporting encourages biased or emotionally loaded impressions of events rather than neutrality, and may cause a manipulation to the truth of a story.[1] Sensationalism may rely on reports about generally insignificant matters and portray them as a major influence on society, or biased presentations of newsworthy topics, in a trivial, or tabloid manner, contrary to general assumptions of professional journalistic standards.[2][3]

Some tactics include being deliberately obtuse,[4] appealing to emotions,[5] being controversial, intentionally omitting facts and information,[6] being loud and self-centered, and acting to obtain attention.[5] Trivial information and events are sometimes misrepresented and exaggerated as important or significant, and often include stories about the actions of individuals and small groups of people,[1] the content of which is often insignificant and irrelevant to the macro-level day-to-day events occurring globally

12yearplan, No. Was not tired. Just because there is more depth to something, as Chomsky undoubtedly goes into there (will watch it later though expect, as i've seen much of what he sees in media, it will be little new), it doesn't mean the two stations are equivalent in the way opinionated ass-hat Brand is saying. No wasn't tired at all. And famous and respected or not i think he's a jerk.
