12yearplan, It's only 140 years since women got the vote in a self governing country .. New Zealand was the first self-governing country in the world in which all women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections; from 1893.[2] However women could not stand for election to parliament until 1919, when three women stood (unsuccessfully); see 1919 in New Zealand. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_women%27s_suffrage
and just over 100 years since they gained the right to run for parliament.
The battle for equal rights for women continues today. Throughout the fight there have been feminists of different types. Some more extreme than others. Feminists who disagreed with each other vehemently. What am i getting to? Take prostitution for example. It's much more accepted and more openly practiced today than in years past. Yep, the acceptance of the practice varies greatly between countries. Even, as you know, between different states in the same country. Prostitutes cater for a need. i'm leaving aside the human trafficking inherent in the industry. Criminal exploitation takes place in about every profession in existence.
Today to a degree there is a sexual revolution going on. People who have been excluded from society are, in many places, being more included. I see "maid" cafes as serving a need. As giving an outlet for some who to now would be practicing - a fetish - in private. In relative shame.
Of course many would oppose them. Some women certainly would. And some men passionate about women being exploited by men. As i am. Some feminists whom you might agree with on everything else would see the maid cafe as the author sees instinctively sees them. Though she leaves room for more tolerant thought in her final verdict.
If the the demand is enough to keep one or two of those places going, and if all who work there and go there do it entirely voluntarily, it's a fair go by me.
Ps aside - I learned something from this bit:
"Vigorous discussion ensued and Graham Linehan, once known as the creator of Father Ted and now known for his obsession with transgender people, dubbed it “a Hooters for incels ..
Had no idea what either agb or agbl meant. Also learned Graham Linehan, creator of Father Ted which i watch occasionally, rather lacks understanding of some people. It led to an article which i'll post later in full.
