#434765 RE: B402 #434763

This tiresome argument about the Dems deserting the middle class is refuted by the the midterms in '18 and '22, as well as the national election in '20.

Several of us have asked you to post the support shown for the middle class through GOP legislation going back as far as the Dem New Deal. Absent a long GOP list that approaches that of the Dems, you lose the argument based upon recent electoral history, recent Dem bills and history going back exactly 90 years.

Below is the opening in a Quora discussion, it goes back and forth but mostly mirrors what you've read from many of us here.

Democrats.

I keep asking ONE QUESTION of conservatives/republicans and in over twenty years of asking have NEVER gotten an intelligent response other than bumper sticker BS.

I ask a simple question.

NAME ONE BILL OR LAW PASSED BY CONSERVATIVES, and that is an important distinction as conservatives and liberals sometimes switch party’s, but their ideology is the same, that benefitted anyone but the wealthy or corporations in the last 200 yeas.

WHEREAS I can list over 150 Accomplishments for ALL Americans by liberals.

BUT not one by conservatives that benefitted anyone but the rich.

So go ahead. NAME ONE

Today, All republicans represent is wealthy people. Just look at Comrade Trump’s much vaunted tax break that ended up only giving the rich a tax break of around one and a half trillion dollars. And that ended up screwing the middle class whose taxes went up and whose tax returns went down.

I will never understand anyone who votes republican as you are voting against your own best interests.

ALTHOUGH there are those who vote republican out of some mythological belief Democrats are out to sell America to ISIS or Russia of China wen the truth is republicans want to model America after those countries with dictatorships An that is why the majority of people who vote republican do so. They want revenge for not getting their way.

Further republicans always get us into financial trouble and Democrats have to get us out of those troubles and then republicans whine Democrats are out to steal your guns, bibles etc and the dumbasses buy into that bullshit. I’ve been waiting for Bill Clinton to come get my guns and then Obama and they STILL push this bullshit and dumbass republican voters buy into it every time.

SO who is better for America? DEMOCRATS.

The only think republcans have done is work against the working class, they work for employers and businesses who don't want the federal minimum wage raised for the past 13 years, they have worked to weaken worker rights, protections and safety rules for their employees, republicans have pushed comp time to replace overtime pay that can lead to employees being paid less and unpaid hours of work.

The republican desire to get rid of social security and Medicare is quite clear and would devastate the middle class and poor when they retire. And of course the ones fighting against these things are the democrats and unions and that is another reason the republicans are trying to destroy the unions because they are fighting against those actions.

The only support the republicans give the working class is empty lip service of claims of support.

Now this is an interesting question. What have the democrats done for the working class let's start with social security meducare medicaid. How about strong support for unions OSHA unemployment insurance FDIC. I am sure I missed some things feel free to add to my list.

What have the republicans done for the working class opposed everything i have listed and given huge tax breaks to their bosses in other words nothing. Reading the trumpeters answers is really amazing the Republicans have so successfully sold many people on the lie that republicans have done anything for the working class is an all time greatest lie.

Just look at history in the 1870's the republicans became the party of big business and remain so today. In fact every democratic policy that has greatly benefited was strongly opposed by republicans. Some day a grad student is going to write a great PhD dissertation on why working class whites vote republican. Fortunately I will not be doing it although I have my own ideas why this is the case. So someone go do it.
