It really does suck because our economy really does rely on a ton of migrant workers and when word gets around, here they come to the "land of the free". I don't blame them one bit.
The bad part is that we could set up some sort of migration path for these good people in their own countries. OR set up some special interest in the homes that they really don't want to leave in the first place.
They just want to be able to afford a daily life without worrying if the gangsters are going to kill them. It becomes a delicate balance between diplomacy and a logjam at our borders.
There has always been serious blowback when the US tries to get involved down there but I think that's where the answer is. I'm probably just spitballing but we really need to have a greater presence in these countries as a nation rather than the crime organizations that represent us now.
