I don't understand these people. I keep watching TV and all of these people are crying about not having any water. They've got snow piled up to the roof in some areas but they have no water? Seriously?
Don't they know that is the cleanest water you can get anywhere? Same for when it rains. If you capture rain water or snow after the first few minutes once it washes the funk out of the air, that is the purest of water that can be found.
Get every pan and jug, cup and container in your house, fill them with snow , put them in the house and let it melt. You can drink it. cook with it. Bath, flush the toilet.
I always keep one of those portable water heaters around. Those things things you see on ebay for 10.00 -20,00 that you can drop off in a bucket and it will boil water. IF you gor really desperate you could cook with it in a pan if you just had to.
You're going to think I'm crazy but buy several solar panels. Link them together. Run your wire off of them just like you would if you were going to run it into the house. A 100 watt solar panel on a bad day with little sun will generally put out at least half.
If you can afford to buy say 500 watts of solar panels, you' will have enough power to run basic necessities to at least to heat water to bath with. I've hooked 2-3 solar panels directly to one of those 110 100-150 watt water heater elements and heated a garden tub full of water in a couple of hours to the point it is hot enough to bathe.
If you'e got snow there's no reason for you to not have water. You shouldn't be scared to drink it if you drink tap water in the city. It's an improvement. It's cleaner to bathe in also.
Rain, Ice, Snow.. You're never without drinkable water if you collect it in the right way. Learn to survive. At some point you may have to.
