lol, that one was pretty supercharged. One of my more lucid moments. I was a young buck, just coming of age during the Reagan years and saw the results first hand. It's what got me into politics in the first place.
He did some good stuff, like amnesty for immigrants but mostly his years were a whole time of his wife running the show. The just say no drug laws devastated some places around here that still have never been able to recover.
Meanwhile everyone at the nightclubs were lighting it up and insulated from the racist policing that was going on around them. It gave cops the training they have today and you see how far that's got us.
It shaped my thinking because I was being pressed hard by my father to take the military academies scholarships that were offered. Naval Academy would have made me an officer on day one. West Point was a little more complicated but I would have went for free run.
I wanted neither. I wanted to stay close to home and help my friends get into good trouble.
