I thought it a pretty smart marketing move...
Keeping that Pentium name for the "just OK" products.
The INTC product line is in such disarray right now I wouldn't bother trying to explain it to anybody:-)
It becomes quite clean once the netburst stuff is cleared out.
Celeron 4XX single core "core 2", cheap product
Pentium 2XXX dual core core 2, 800Mhz FSB, 1M L2, OK product
Core 2 4XXX dual core, 800Mhz FSB, 2M L2, good product
Core 2 6XXX dual core, 1066/1333 FSB, 4M L2, great product
