I agree, Terry. Getting past the "party system" will be a major step. The "will to believe" permeates our lives. From religion to politics, we are driven more by emotion than intellect.
As long as we ignore this part of our nature, the media will dictate our attitudes. Fortunately, Mark Twains and the Martin Luther Kings come along from time to time and jostle us. For me, Kenneth Roberts had considerable effect. His books helped me understand there were two sides to the American Revolution. It seems obvious now, but I'd just never considered the possibility that anyone didn't want to separate from England.
The mind is a wonderful tool. We don't use it enough.
