#18679 RE: 34Simmons #18662

Scott, the spector of NVC's IT being in the
historically rapacious hands of China, where patents and other such legal restraints are observed in their breech (viz CDs, Vidoe tapes (films), DVD's, to cite some examples) makes me have deep concerns about our possible IT/Asian (specifically Chinese) nexus. I have no such concerns about Taiwan, where our involvement has been strongly suggested and whose honoring of IT seems to be the case, rather than the exception (am I mistaken in this?). Now, if some one can disabuse me of this (Chinese) disrespect for IT sovereignty, I'd be much obliged. One would hope that their admission to the World Group of Seven (initially as a viewer, or some such preliminary status) would force them to come down hard on their domestic pirates. I'm not suggesting that this is a matter of official Chinese policy, but they (the Chinese military/bureaucracy) put on a good show of bulldozing plants where the CD's (for example) are made, crushing them underneath the
machine's wheels, and followup is nil, except for outside invesigators discovering this same illicit manufacturing has cropped up in another plant and life goes on... with winks and nods. Sic transit NVC???
