I knew him only slightly, but
I was in a blues trio for quite some time w. his brother, Johnny.
Danny was on top of his game until The Blues Project moved to the
West Coast, settling in Marin County. It was there that he met his
"waterloo," so to speak, as he got dosed by Owsley with a triple duration
LSD variant called STP. Danny had to stop playing following that horror,
and never was quite the same again, IMO.
Frankly I'm surprised he lived this long. He was one of the first
white guys to master some aspects of the blues guitar.
Yes, RIP, Danny Kalb.
