Not exaggerating because that's what I was seeing right in front of me and it made me post about it. All your points are valid for sure.
I don't exaggerate when it comes to reality in front of me. I still don't quite know but have thoughts of why they did it, and I strongly feel the rest of the news players were just carrying the same shit back and forth. It's what they do, I've been there and have seen it done in the studios. All the networks have big screens and satellite live feeds of the competition and watch them like hawks.
I see it from a production point of view, from a stage manager etc.
All the networks have scads of people in front of their 70 something inch touchscreens all trying to outguess and out show the others. Theirs is a game of presentation. For viewer numbers.
You might be amazed to learn that in that entire production suite from the switching and direction production to the total floor studio probably more than 70% of the people don't even pay attention to what the actual data is about. They only worry if the next graphic comes off on time, the graphic titling is spelled correctly and the proper head and nose room is happening and whose mic is up and working.
The talking heads are lost without the prompters and ques from the floor or in ear. It's the 6 producers in the booths running the show. There's a bunch of people all over keeping up with the data. Even with all the pre canned graphics, b'roll and effects people still need to pop a lot in real time. People make mistakes.
When they do these live election covers, every element you see is usually live called to a ton of people working boards. Easily 20 to 30 in that studio, not to mention the 4 or 6 catering people keeping the cheese table stocked.
But yeah, it was a direct decision to show checkmarks for people at 9%.
And at time of the day the balloting wasn't closed. That's my main point.
Why do they do that? Probably so they can have some different numbers to draw people to their channel? I'm not going to outright claim they were trying to influence voters.
I should go back and find the people listed like that if I can remember and see how they did.
