This is my last (15th) of the day. I'm sure most of you are happy to hear that. But, I had a good time today.
Per ABC Channel 7...the Cubs did have a caretaker from the years 1923 to 1957 until he died.
Bill Veeck when he owned the St Louis Browns lived onsite with his wife because he couldn't afford an apartment. All of his money were spent buying the Browns and was flat broke. So the build an apt in the stadium to live.
As far as Sosa, the same as McGuire, Bonds and everybody else in the era. Lots and lots of steroids. And a corked bat or three.
A good book to read is Ball Four by Jim Bouton. It tells all about about the "greenies" pep pills and a lot of good stories inside the locker room and on the field. The book is so good and insightful and incriminating that he was banned from baseball for a long time.
