Ouch. Palpable hint of aggression there is hardly peaceful. Felt a bit edgy. ;-) That said the question i've never thought of before. First a couple of off-the-top (ott) notes. Noted you didn't accept in your reply how misguided your idea was that i or the board was singling out Israel for criticism while letting China and Australia go free. No acknowledgement you accepted now that position of yours was baseless and uninformed. You might ask yourself -- why did i say it when i had no idea.
"Ok, you explain to me how context can be created without what you call whataboutism. I'm listening."
And it's not my calling it whataboutism. It's what others have labeled it as.
Also i have the feeling at least your mention of Australia's mistreatment of Aborigines arose more from the fact you were talking to me that from a desire of yours to created context. Or is the fact i am Australian part of the context here. Guess you could say that. Anyway, i reckon your Australia mention was pretty much all to do with 'what about your country.' A reactive defensive reaction on your part. Nothing to do with creating context.
I really haven't ever seen your question considered before. Don't suppose you considered searching it before asking me. I'd know no more about that than you. Ott, dunno, maybe - if the subject of our chat was something like 'Worldwide Injustice Against Indigenous People' then your mention of Australia and China would have been entirely appropriate. We were talking about Israel's mistreatment of Palestinians. Does it have something to do the the subject of the chat?? Maybe it was the way you introduced the other two countries that had me think of that
..."technique or practice of responding to an accusation or difficult question by making a counter-accusation or raising a different issue"
Maybe it was something i sensed in your tone. Don't know. Anyway. good question. I'll have a further look at it. Umm, maybe even there is something on it in the link above. I still haven't read much in there either.
