I realize "moral authority" was a weak choice of words, but in theory representation of a defendant does not mean participating in criminal behavior, just a strong stomach, a weak conscience, and the ability to forget quickly, like an NFL cornerback.
After all, someone had to represent Jeffrey Dahmer and none of them became known as cannibalism sympathizers. I figure that they know they will be stiffed, but traded that for being in the public eye.
