Russell Brand is masterful in his presentation, speech, understanding of the matters of which he speaks so eloquently, is charismatic and connects with his audience significantly. I found it difficult to listen to him before he had conquered his drug addiction, but now I find him to be extremely interesting, grounded in the real energy that he finds within himself, and a total delight. Brand is exceptionally talented as a speaker and extremely intelligent with a miraculous spot-on memory capability.

I’m english, and I think that although Brand is an excellent wordsmith he is a charlatan of the worst kind. He’s a conspiracy theorist, much like Joe Rogan. Like Rogan, he knows his audience (mostly angry, young to middle aged white guys) and knows how to keep them hooked.

He hides behind a humorous facade, and the slogan of the conspiracy theorist “I’m no expert, I’m just asking questions” when espousing his pet theory of the week. Whether that be antivax, altmed, big pharma conspiracies, US/Russia voting fraud and well the list goes on and on.

The problem with Brand and those like him is they are charismatic, they win you over with their charm. We must remember that charm is a verb. Brand is actively using it as a method of coercion. We must always be on our guard when we encounter charming people, charm is not a substitute for evidence and never will be.

Ultimately you have to ask yourself, who is a more reliable source, an a expert who has spent years of their life studying a specific area, using proven methods of science to reach reasonable conclusions or an ex-junkie podcaster who admits to jerking off homeless men in public toilets.
