He makes interesting points. But may be stretching a bit. I've been playing against one form of bots or another for over 20 years. None of those games are monetizing. There has been quite a row about 'play to win' that almost no professional game publisher or game service allows any kind of in game purchase that improves a players chances in said game. Almost all the shitty phone app games ARE pay to play and don't care about players.
I can't think of one big game platform that does this. Only thing names like blizzard, activision, EA and other known names may allow cosmetic buying. One can not buy abilities. Now are game manufacturers including bots to influence cosmetic buying?
Are they actually orchestrating game rounds for players? Possibly.
My style of gaming does not fit the never ending zombie wars or the constant battle royal games. I get sick of those very fast and will play a whole map of bots just so I can breath and explore and stealth. People like different stuff. I like games like WOW, far cry, battlefield 1 through 15....free roam games, not utterly scripted.
In one aspect I don't see why bots couldn't chat. They do talk in action. These days when you go on a company store webpage and hit chat to ask about a product, probably 90% of the time you are talking to a bot first. At some point you may be handed off to a human without you knowing. Of course mostly in India and they're still not understanding English that well. I guess Philippines may still lead the world in call in centers. They understand English way better than the Indians.
Ironically I interviewed with a call in center in my area last fall Oct and I asked them where the calls are coming from and she said India and other foreign countries. I remember asking her, not american companies with tech problems and whatever? She just laughed and said not much from here. They called me in less than a week but I turned it down. I had asked around and they got very bad reviews by just about anyone that knew of the company.
