From a leader's point of view you're basically right, it's more about strategy than about rights or morality. Or murder. However leaders still need voters and millions of American voters are still Bible believers. Millions still see the Bible as a major source of their positions. You're right though that from a leader's point of view getting those voters on side is all about strategy. About politics and power.
