I would rather own the shares outright as time is on my side owning them but not on the side of the average option holder

The options aren't driving "they will corruptly XYZ".

It's the PFOF + Dark Pool + conflicted trade execution. Stop options and you still have the PFOFDPCoI problem. Stop PFOF and/or DP and/or CoI (de facto if not de jure) and suddenly options along with the rest of the market look healthy again.
