This ruling could very well be the republicans defund the cops moment. We’ll have to wait and see
The salient differences? Every single GOP SCOTUS nominee, during their hearings, either refused to speculate on future cases, said that their personal religious views would not govern their decisions or said that they would defer to judicial precedent.
In other words they lied their theocratic asses off.
And this has real legs. A finger in the wind is encountering a hurricane of WTFs?! from Dems and probably a majority of GOP women. If the poll margins for the midterms start to narrow we'll know more about......unintended consequences
Unlike the 'defund the police' this is much more than a bad choice of words; it's the fulfillment of GOP wet dreams that are in the GOP platforms.
GOP Platform Anti-Abortion Language Includes No Exceptions For Rape, Incest August 21, 20124:35 PM ET
In Tampa, Fla., a week ahead of their national convention, Republicans are drawing up their party platform. There are muted disagreements over a few issues, such as immigration and same-sex marriage. But at least within the platform committee, one of the least controversial issues discussed this week is abortion.
With little discussion, the committee on Tuesday adopted the same anti-abortion language it included in GOP platforms in 2004 and 2008. It seeks passage of a constitutional amendment that would extend legal rights to the unborn, essentially banning abortion.
The language in the platform includes no exceptions for rape or incest.
That's an issue this year in large part because of comments this week by Missouri Republican Rep. Todd Akin, the party's nominee for the U.S. Senate. He suggested anti-abortion laws don't need exceptions for rape, stating that "legitimate rape" rarely results in pregnancy because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."
Republicans are considering strengthening the already strict anti-abortion language in their party platform by condemning Planned Parenthood and calling for Supreme Court justices who will reverse decisions in favor of abortion rights.
