Shortening someone's name without permission is considered bad form in polite circles, either to curry familiarity or to subtly show passive aggressive dominance, as in "I can diminish your name if feel like it" rudeness. Personally, I don't give a hoot, but I have noticed that fuagf has asked not to be called fua before.
As to how you got injected into the thread, I didn't see it either, but then again, some of the word salads have shit tucked into them that need a decoder ring.
