I agree , but going after them for infringement is aggressive . I think that would be the last thing he’d do after all options of a buyout are exhausted .
Other companies have patents, but the issue is what they have patented and what they don't have patented.
AllState has a patent "System and method for determining an insurance premium based on analysis of human telematic data and vehicle telematic data" that focuses on what premium should a driver be billed.
ZenDrive has a patent "SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A DRIVER IN A TELEMATIC APPLICATION" which focuses on determine WHO is driving.
IGEN patented the process and resources used to create a signature to assign a score to drivers.
AllState and ZenDrive are doing what IGEN has patented. Their mistake was not to get more patents covering the entirety of what they do. A big part of software patents is recognizing what can be patented. Its kind of shocking from a normal person perspective that some things that seem obvious can be patented but they can.
FYI, an easy way around the problem for these companies is to buy IGEN :)
I believe it was the two mentioned and one other in a published document in the past; I regret I didn't keep a record-but fairly certain that the two (Progressive is my current carrier, so I KNOW that one for sure!) Someone here on the board will likely recall the companies as that information has been posted here in the past.
