Whether or not Putin is a Stalin or a Trudeau i don't see as having any bearing on whether or not he (Russia) are justified in having any security concerns regarding NATO expansion onto their border. i don't see the logic at all in saying just because he is an aggressor he gives up the right to concern about the country's security.
That said there is no dispute among reasonable people about who is responsible for this war. Nor about what he would still like to achieve. Heard a guy say today the weather may nor be in Putin's favor so much to allow their vehicles to leave roads as you suggested earlier. Lots of rain still around he said.
My history recall sucks, so good to know Stalin grabbed some 11% of Ukraine back then.
