As a shareholder I do look forward to getting the first year behind us so we can start seeing profits from the units sold, but as a customer I think the free year of service is smart and necessary to break into what is a very crowded market. IGEN's products are not flying off the shelf despite the offer of a free year of service. Without the offer of a year of free service I don't see how we could have sold the number of FamilyPlan units as we did (whatever that number happens to be).

It makes no sense to me that someone would be unhappy about being given more 'free' service time. In the past few years I got a free year of service from AppleTv and a Toyota car service. In both cases getting that made a huge positive impact on me in terms of how I thought about the company. I appreciated them giving me the time needed to see the value in their product. I definitely wasn't pissed after a year when it ended. It might take 6 months before a typically trustworthy teenager street races or is late two hours from curfew giving the parents the opportunity realize the value of the service.
