I wouldn't go that far, I'm hearing great things about Austin and San Antonio, from men and from women who know better. I suppose the same must be true for Dallas and Houston and other cities there, women are more highly regarded in urban than rural settings, everywhere. Also the hill country, as has been previously discussed.
I knew slightly in college a woman whose family, at that time, owned the King Ranch, there, or a big chunk of it, or whatever. She never struck me as the type who would be very passive about anything.
