When I was graduating from college, one of my requirements for graduation was focusing on AIM, back then it was something new. The American Indian Movement.
I was a student teacher in Iowa and had my class send letters to George McGovern from South Dakota, he was the Senator back then, his office sent letters back to my students, and put us in touch with someone called Russell Means.
Long story short, I met Russell at the Des Moines airport, he was on his way to Washington DC to address congress. I have always held many fond memories of the struggles by Indians to this day.
You can never change the events that shape your life, they happen, and they leave you with memories of what has happened in the past. Those are things that should never be forgotten.
