Don't think you should think of dodging legal help. You might need the records down the line should something of the repairs go wonky and that might cover expenses.
It almost all the cases I've known of with dog attacks, when the owner starts getting questions and people come out, there's past bite attacks. Someone's kid, brother or whatever it was in the family and wasn't talked about.
You just never know with just about any breed of dog.
