Foreign aid is a tough one.
In most cases the money given is mandated to be spent on American made products, like planes, bombs, agriculture, machinery, what have you
So what's really happening is that we're taking public (taxpayers') money and privatizing it via these purchases, with the recipient country basically taking a middleman's cut. I view it as a form of money laundering but no one's really asked my opinion about it.
We're looking at a lot of American jobs that are paid for with these so-called foreign aid dollars.
The other stuff, yes. I used to regard our bloated military as a jobs provider, and it is, but now I think just as many jobs (the bloated part) can be created with renewable energy development and expanded healthcare and infrastructure projects. Try selling that to the Pentagon, though.
