The only effective mitigation effort may have been distancing yourself from someone who was visibly ill, coughing, sneezing, etc., otherwise, the distance means crap, the masks do nothing but give a psychological protection, and the vax was wasted by not restricting it to the vulnerable.
The rest only needed therapeutics, and probably most did not need treatment from a 99.3% survival rate. Did everyone think they were going to die when more than 99% were expected to survive.
