When we say "the West"--a term that's a bit antiquated, and on its way out--what we mean is non-Asian countries and cultures. South Africa was for a couple of centuries dominated by the Boers, who were Dutch, and the British. It cannot by any stretch of the imagination be considered "Asian", or "Eastern".
