What part about you are far less likely to die or wind up in a hospital on a ventilator if you have been vaccinated don’t you understand? Or that getting vaccinated, even if you have a “breakthrough infection” greatly reduces the amount of viral particles you spew out with every breath you take?

How is that weak efficacy?

What about the part that even if you are young and healthy, and have mild to non-existent Covid symptoms, but you can still pass it on to the elderly and others with weak immune symptoms makes you indifferent to the “public health” aspect of widespread vaccination?

Do you think that smallpox and polio vaccinations reduced the spread of those crippling diseases, or was that fake news?

Here is what I don't understand. Considering the vaccine's weak efficacy, questionable safety, and the low risk of serious disease among most people, why are politicians and public health authorities so adamant about vaccine mandates for everyone, along with draconian restrictions on the freedom of people to go about life as they please?

Everything you wrote is a lie or a distortion. The vaccines are highly effective but variants have reduced efficacy, hence the need for boosters.

The risk of serious illness, including hospitalization is high, as is death. Amazing how casually you dismiss the death of almost 800,000 Americans. The healthcare system has been close to overwhelmed multiple times but restrictions initially help stem the tide as has vaccination. The problem now is unvaccinated people.

What draconian restrictions? Public health has always required restrictions. Only now when Republican have politicized Covid and Covid vaccines based on lies, distortions and misinformation. School children have alway required vaccines to enter school but somehow now they find vaccine requirements somehow unAmerican when the Supreme Court has consistently upheld them.

The vaccine has good efficacy. You are confused because someone led you to believe that randomized trials that were underpowered (by a lot) and did not show a mortality benefit (which they were never designed to show ) somehow means the vaccines don’t save lives
Doing a RCT on a few million and following them for a long enough duration while not allowing crossover is impractical.
