morn 13
We had a good holiday too, thanks,,,Just the 3 of us this year and I'm not the best cook, so boys enjoy watching me fumble though it all...Mostly successful, a failure or two but the turkey was my best yet.....
We did a lot on Friedman, to summarize, he ended the social contract between workers and corporations.....Social contracts bond people together, be it business or race......
We used the breaking of the social contract between us and the British to write the declaration of independence and justify the revolutionary war.....
The urban / rural divide is indeed sad having lived in both myself for extended periods of times......We can't discount the last 50 yrs but I have to agree about the artificial construct too, nothing that that can unite us has been left untouched by the 1%ers...
The Koche Brothers (now brother) and their cronies seem to be at the top of the list to keep us divided,,,Ive made many a post about them,,,,Not just establishing right wing think tanks but also the tea party and you will find their name funding things like the free Michigan protests that ended mitigation...
We had a great conversation about race going after George Floyd too...But that could not be allowed and defund the police was turned into Anti cop v pro cop...Much like burn baby burn was used to discredit the 60s and 70s civil rights era....
No matter what, anytime people are coming together a way is found to keep us seperated...I really don't think many of us understand that and end up playing into it with harsh and hateful rhetoric that deepens the divide...Theories have been tossed around that its really to keep us preoccupied and not look at where all the money goes, who has it, how they got it and the extremes they go to to keep it plus the stranglehold they have over lawmakers...And as you noted they find a way to profit from divide,,especially Murdoch..
When my ape like emotions (credit 12) get the best of me I'd like to round up those likes....But others set a better example of the demeanor we should all have to settle things ;)
I spent sum 25 yrs in Texas, like you I saw (experienced) first hand 'right to work', to me its just a form of legal slavery resulting in throwaway workers.....Hopefully unions will make a resurgence but corporate propaganda is prevalent throughout the country and in all classes....We have an opportunity with new technologies based on future needs, it remains to be seen whom will benefit the most from it, workers or shareholders, it would be nice if it was both..
Kudos to your grandfathers brother....My grandfather benefited from unions working in Charleston at FMC....Corps took all the plants there and sent them to India to get cheaper labor and do an end run around environmental laws....When he died recently (at 98) I'm sure FMC celebrated since he was one of the very last receiving retirement benits...
Unions got out of hand back in the 60s being corrupted by organized crime and still have some drawbacks like in the police unions where they protect police that should be sent down the road never to wear a badge again...The excesses of the past are used as rhetoric to dissuade people about unions...That all happened a half century ago, I think we can do better now....
