Overall it's a fair assessment of Tuesday's win for Youngkin, and it's an understatement to say McAuliffe ran a weak campaign.
McA was caught flat-footed when Youngkin accused him of saying parents should have no say in what schools teach, which was not what McAuliffe actually said. Parents in VA suburbs pay close attention to the schooling of their children, and allowing Youngkin to get away with misrepresenting what McA said was a major mistake.
Also, Youngkin was smart to keep Trump out of his campaign - it's well-known Trump is hated in VA. Y used Trump in the June Primary election to attract T voters, but when it came to the General election Trump was not welcome.
Lastly, for months the Dems in DC fought among themselves and were not able to pass Pres Biden's agenda - for many voters it looked like the Dems cannot govern.
imo, Youngkin has his eye on the WH - he's a bright, successful guy and he won't be satisfied with staying in Richmond.
Y will get a lot of attention from the tv pol talk shows, which will drive Trump crazy.
