My wife of 49 years and I worked hard to make good lives for ourselves. We own our home outright and the only debt we carry is on the credit card which is paid in full every month. We ran our finances on the assumption that social security and medicare would be bankrupt by the time we were eligible. Turns out, we were a couple of years too early. If only the government would be so fiscally sound. We are prepared for the economic turmoil coming fast as best we can be but it still will be tough. It will be impossible for many.
We have no children, not for any altruistic reason, but because we didn't want children. It was a rational choice for us. We had too much to do.
