munchkin and cinema are only asking for the oil, coal and pharma parts of the bill to be removed totally, anything else they mention is a smoke screen, even most republiqans know what they're doing.

pharma, oil donors did their homework and groomed these people for the last two years at least.

I'd vote in a republiqan in their place in 2024.

Dirty greedy traitors. Along with mitch, I'm almost positive munchkin and cinema voted against the earlier wage raise portion of the last attempted bill.

The bitch cinema is fighting for the pharma to stop the government to allow more generic medicines in drug programs. It's not just senators paid off, it's doctors also getting some types kickbacks and or forced to use costlier name brands instead of generic, or never shown generic data unless they ask. And many many doc's would be too busy to ask.

My cousin quit as a pharma drug rep when they stopped allowing him or severely limited him from showing generic alternatives in the doc offices.
His company made the commission for generic almost non existent. It kind of slaps the face of logic as his company made many of the generics as well.
Weird things like no support, no sales materials for generics, almost always late with product. And this was over 10 years ago.

Kinda tough to back ol Joe on that one fuag ;)

Be it corporate corruption, constituent pressure or just knowing the bill effectively ends what's left of WV coal mining...

Joes wrong, coal has to go! And providing subsidies to convert coal power plants to gas needs to be done.....It wouldn't hurt to negotiate something from clean energy industry towards the miners though...

I think I made some reasonable points over all though Fuag,,,,

Dems shouldn't be afraid to reevaluate along the way and see if they can do better...

But with all the petty politics, name calling, my way or the highway, agree on every point or FU politics...There may only be one way to bring the US together again, now that you mention it... ;)

Big Pharma spending $263M to prevent Congress from lowering drug prices

Kris Van Cleave 13 hrs ago

Lowering prescription drug prices is among the Biden administration's most urgent priorities.
But the drug industry is spending big to keep that from happening.

A new compromise
.. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/democrats-lower-prescription-drug-prices-deal-biden-build-back-better/?ftag=MSF0951a18 .. on Capitol Hill would offer some relief from high prices by gradually allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices similar to private insurers for the first time, while capping out of pocket costs at $2,000 and setting limits on the cost of insulin.

"This is the time to get real relief to senior citizens who are getting mugged at the pharmacy counter," Democratic Senator Ron Wyden said.

The pharmaceutical industry has spent nearly $263 million on lobbying so far this year, employing three lobbyists for every member of Congress, according to OpenSecrets, which tracks money in politics. Millions of those dollars are in the form of campaign donations.

"They have really endless resources to throw at shaping the outcomes of legislation," said Sheila Krumholz, the executive director of OpenSecrets.

Congressman Scott Peters, a Democrat, sparked protests outside his San Diego district office when he came out against a plan to cut drug costs for seniors earlier this year. He's received nearly $130,000 from the industry this year, according to OpenSecrets data.

About $100,000 has been donated to Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema this year. Senator Robert Menendez, also a Democrat, has taken nearly $80,000 in 2021.

"Bottom line is I'm supporting a price negotiation bill that has been worked out. What I've said since the very beginning of the discussion, how do we ensure that consumers at the counter get relief," Menendez said when asked what message he's sending by taking money from the pharmaceutical industry.

All three Democrats have praised the compromise on drug prices, saying it will save Medicare billions of dollars while closing loopholes. Progressive Democrats have praised the deal, but say it shows Big Pharma's influence on the legislative process.

Marylin Rose said her chronic myeloid leukemia would be a death sentence without her daily medication, which can cost up to $10,000 a month.

"I say it's my stay alive pill," she said.

But she worries that her bill could soar without a curb on prescription drug prices.

"It's a miracle that the drug exists. But the idea that I'm beholden to it is really a little scary," she said.
