This paragraph really rings true...
We live a much more polarized time. On the one hand, these sorts of abuses of power genuinely make people cynical and angry about government. It feels like there’s one standard for the powerful and another for everyone else. At the same time, I think it’s harder today for people to dislodge from their partisan identities. So you’re less likely to see an electoral backlash to wrongdoing on the scale of the one that followed Watergate, particularly with people having so many more options in terms of the media they consume. But that doesn’t mean voters are indifferent to these issues. They are just hungry for more systemic change, as we see in poll after poll.
Its what I hear with any political discussion I have here in Red America.....
As your post notes the system has been chipped away at over the years, ie Jr lying to go to war with Iraq with no consequences or outrage (Dems voted for it too so I guess it was easier to leave it alone) and what wasn't chipped away is now antiquated,,,Trump just took it All to the next level...
Unspoken rules need to be put on paper and/or given teeth...
HR1 was a really good bill, except the goodies they threw in like DC statehood.....If dems want to turn us around they need to put country first and do things like clean bills to gain credibility, if not, they appear as politics as usual,,,Now is the time to step up, we know the majority of repubs won't....
The border is an example, skirting the law with political help or political interference creating a lack of action...
And if you can get the law to look at a Corp as a person, you can legislate just about anything Eh!
Somehow the Repubs stole the banner of curing political and corporate corruption..Tucker Carlson to the rescue! ;) Lol
One thing everyone knows, the inequity is there and they are sick of it....And 'we' know repubs will only push it to The breaking point if given the chance with Trumpism...
