In a constitutional government sometimes the advice of generals is not taken.

Requests for additional troops for Vietnam and for Afghanistan, over 20 years, are historical examples of why such advice should be more carefully scrutinized.

I'll be curious to know if Trump's decision to leave Afghanistan by May 1 was fulsomely debated.
