Right, and I have little doubt they'll be happening for years to come, particularly when so many refuse to be inoculated, thereby leading to more virulent strains-- it's madness.
As it sits now (mostly in Ontario) many are not fully vaccinated despite having 2 jabs. The first half-measure AZ jab gave something in the 30% efficacy range. The first Moderna gave something around 60% for the first Covid strain, and about half of that for the present Delta variant strain. The Canadian government could not secure anywhere near enough mRNA vaccines initially so went with AZ and then decided they'd shelf that effort after the fact knowing that they were touting an inferior product. All of the sudden all the wonderful things they'd plied us with regarding AZ vaccines were thrown out once they secured enough Moderna vaccine. It makes it even more profound when the government advertised that we'd have a choice between AZ, Pfizer or Moderna for our second jab-- complete BS -- not following the science, just an ad hoc effort, and a shameless one at that. If I'd waited 2 more weeks for my first jab, it would have been Moderna, because AZ was being phased out just as fast as they could get rid of it.
The future will tell the story. Looking around the world right now, doesn't look so good. =/
