Yeah, and AMD is apparently eating their lunch. Hopefully their current/new CEO will be able to turn the ship around. A friend of mine from college was one of the first traders of Intel options back in the mid-1980s, and my father actually put some VC funds into Cygnet Technologies (which ended up not doing well as it was ahead of its time ...the market), founded by Federico Faggin, who was the developer of the Intel 8080 and other very early microprocessors. My father also put VP funds into Zilog when he worked at Exxon Enterprises, but the Exxon culture F*&&d it up as my father strongly recommended bringing in other silicon valley VC firms but they decided to do it "on their own" which was dumb as they didn't have the connections or skills in this area of business! :-)
