There are likely a variety of ways that this battery is charged and keeps itself charged. There is no free lunch when it comes to energy. It must be derived, not created and there is always loss involved in those processes. For example, a car's alternator does not generate electricity on its own on the scale that it is needed. The diode in the alternator must be energized via the battery in order to get the magnets to behave properly. It takes energy to get energy. Always.
